Buy coconut flakes from wholesaler August Töpfer & Co.

Coconut flakes are made from dried and flaked coconut flesh and are suitable for various uses in the food industry. We offer coconut flakes with an aromatic coconut flavour in top wholesale quality.

The origin of coconut flakes

The coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm Cocos nucifera, which is grown primarily in Central and South America, Asia and Africa. Strictly speaking, the coconut is not actually a nut but a drupe. Coconuts have been an important source of nutrition and water for millennia. Almost all parts of the plant can be used. The other components of the coconut palm often serve as construction material, fuel, and as a raw material for furniture and other consumable items. Thanks to their flavour, high nutritional content and versatility, coconuts are meanwhile increasingly being used in Europe. Coconut flakes are suitable as an ingredient for sweet and savoury recipes and they give dishes a fine, slightly exotic flavour.

Coconut flakes are among the most popular, best-selling products available from August Töpfer & Co. With our many years of experience and trusting cooperation with our business partners in Indonesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, we guarantee the best quality and reliable delivery. We will be pleased to accommodate your individual wishes in the choice of product. Get in touch with us!

Production of coconut flakes

Coconut flakes and coconut chips vary primarily in terms of size. The variety that’s right for you will largely depend on the intended application. At August Töpfer & Co., you can buy coconut flakes in the grades very fine, fine and medium.

Coconut flakes: contents and nutritional value

Water accounts for around half of a young coconut. When the flesh is still fresh, it contains around 36 percent fat, four percent protein, nine percent fibre and roughly five percent sugar. The high nutritional value, amount of easily digestible protein as well as the vitamins, minerals and trace elements make coconut flesh a valuable source of nutrition and energy. Among other minerals, it contains selenium, iron, potassium, calcium, iodine, magnesium, sodium, phosphorous as well as the vitamins B1, B2, B6, E and folic acid.

The fat content of coconut flakes is around 60 percent. Although these are saturated fatty acids, moderate consumption of coconut products and coconut oil is still considered beneficial to health. The medium-chain fatty acids and high content of lauric acid are especially advantageous.

The nutritional value of coconut flakes in detail (per 100 grams):

Use of coconut flakes

Coconut flakes have also been a popular ingredient in baked goods and desserts beyond their home countries for many years. Customers of August Töpfer & Co. include leading European retailers and discounters as well as the confectionery industry. Coconut flakes can be used in a wide range of products including in biscuits, macarons, cakes and other confectionery, such as energy balls and chocolate products. Moreover, roasted and sometimes slightly sweetened coconut flakes and coconut chips are used in muesli bars and breakfast cereals. Depending on the application, you can find coconut flakes in various degrees of fineness from August Töpfer & Co.

As a result of the growing popularity of Asian cuisine, coconut flakes are increasingly being used in savoury products. They add an exotic note to sauces, curries and soups and round off the flavour with their mild, natural sweetness. Thanks to the heat stability of the oil contained, they are ideal for fried dishes and for supporting subtle flavours. Since coconut flakes naturally contain no gluten and only a small amount of carbohydrates, they are also particularly suitable for preparing easily digestible dishes and baked goods. Coconut flakes are therefore a healthy addition to a balanced diet.

Shelf life and storage of coconut flakes

Like all dried products, coconut flakes should be stored in a cool, dry place with as much protection from light as possible. Sealed in an airtight container and stored correctly, coconut flakes can often be kept for several years. However, the plant fats can spoil over time. In coconut flakes, this generally manifests itself in a strong, slightly musty odour. The fresh product only exudes a subtle coconut fragrance. If the packaging is not properly sealed, the coconut flakes will gradually lose much of their flavour. After opening the packaging, it is a good idea to store the coconut flakes in the refrigerator. When sealed, coconut flakes can be stored at room temperature.
